Carreg Cennen lies in a different direction near Trapp. The exposed crag-top castle requires a steep approach, and the cave passage adds darkness, narrow sections and slippery footing. Treat it as a fair-weather main outing, with the cave optional and plenty of time to descend. The site is jointly managed and not every free-entry scheme applies, so check the operator’s current practical information rather than assuming a general membership rule covers it. Dryslwyn offers a free-entry castle farther west, but its approach is also strenuous and includes crossing the road from the small car park. Ruins with fewer standing walls do not necessarily mean an easier visit. Check the closing time and any grazing notices before climbing. For a shorter excursion, choose Aberglasney alone or one castle and return to Llandeilo for food. Dinefwr remains the closer town-edge option if onward transport or weather makes a wider trip awkward. These suggestions are alternatives to compare, not a promise that three sites fit comfortably into an afternoon.

Make the castle above Trapp the main purpose of a fair-weather outing. The climb and exposed position are part of the experience, with time needed to explore the ruins and return comfortably. The cave passage is an optional additional challenge, not something every visitor must attempt to enjoy the castle.
Climb to the remains of this Welsh castle to understand its commanding position in the Tywi Valley. There are fragmentary walls rather than a furnished interior, so the landscape and surviving outline carry much of the story. Allow time to come down carefully instead of treating it as a quick roadside photo stop.
