A quieter ruined stronghold with a steep approach / NEAR LLANDEILO

Dryslwyn Castle

Climb to the remains of this Welsh castle to understand its commanding position in the Tywi Valley. There are fragmentary walls rather than a furnished interior, so the landscape and surviving outline carry much of the story. Allow time to come down carefully instead of treating it as a quick roadside photo stop.

Before you go

The public car park is across the road from the entrance. Cross with care, then allow a generous margin for the steep climb and return before closing.

Tickets and booking: Free admission. Cadw currently lists 10am–4pm with last admission thirty minutes before closing and certain festive closures; check the date. Grazing can temporarily restrict dogs even on leads.
Access and getting around: Cadw grades the terrain strenuous: steps, gravel and natural paths ascend from the road. The small car park has no dedicated disabled bay; this is not a step-free castle visit.

Visiting with children: Suitable only when children can handle steep ground and close supervision. The ruins are not for climbing on, and the roadside approach needs particular care.
