Great Orme Mines

Descend into the copper workings to encounter the headland’s Bronze Age past. The self-guided visit combines an underground route with interpretation and an outdoor look at the excavated landscape. It is a compact, physical history experience, particularly rewarding if you want to understand the Orme beyond its views.

Before you go

Read the underground conditions before deciding: dim light, low ceilings, wet uneven ground and steps make this very different from a conventional museum. Bring a warm layer even on a sunny day.

Tickets and booking: Tickets can be purchased on site or online. The current season runs to the end of October; check reopening dates for later trips. Allow travel time up the Orme in addition to the visit.
Access and getting around: The underground route has 35 steps down and back up, slopes and low sections. Wheelchairs and pushchairs are unsuitable for the tour. Contact the operator about any useful surface-only options before travelling.

Visiting with children: Consider how children feel about enclosed, dim spaces. The operator recommends a front carrier if carrying a young child; follow hard-hat and footwear guidance.
