Llandudno’s dependable indoor choices in this collection are the town museum and MOSTYN. They answer different interests: the making of a seaside resort, or today’s visual art. A useful rainy-day plan starts with their opening calendars, rather than assuming the pier arcades or an underground attraction can shelter an entire outing.
Choose the museum for 60–90 minutes of local history, then take 45–60 minutes for lunch. If MOSTYN is open and you still want another visit, allow roughly 15–20 minutes through town followed by 45–60 minutes in the current exhibition. These are editorial estimates; transfers, crossings and café availability are separate practical considerations. For a shorter or heavier-rain day, keep one venue and lunch. The cheaper version is MOSTYN alone on an opening day; the museum charges admission. Both venues currently list Tuesday–Saturday opening, and the museum has a seasonal calendar: neither should be assumed available on Sunday, Monday or through the winter simply because the weather has changed. Mines are partly underground but include surface walking and require reaching the Orme; the tram itself is open to the elements. If neither town venue opens on your date, choose and verify a different booked indoor activity before travelling.
FIND YOUR KIND OF DAY
Find the people and decisions behind the familiar seaside façade. Galleries trace the area’s earlier inhabitants, the making of the resort and its wartime stories, while the Chardon collection brings art and collecting into the picture. This is a useful first stop if the promenade has left you wondering how the town became what it is.
Contemporary art offers another side of Llandudno behind MOSTYN’s terracotta frontage on Vaughan Street. Let the current exhibition decide the pace: choose a work to discuss, return to something puzzling and leave room for a café stop. Its closeness to the station makes a short visit practical at the start or end of a day.

Choose the museum if you want to understand Llandudno, from early settlement to resort life and wartime changes. Choose MOSTYN for a shorter encounter with contemporary art, checking what is on first. Interest matters more than filling the afternoon.
