Avebury stone circle
Make a separate trip west to explore the stones and earthworks around the village of Avebury. The monument’s relationship with present-day lanes and buildings is part of what makes it distinctive. Give the open-air site time, choosing manageable sectors instead of turning it into a hurried photo stop.
