Reserve time for the guided house visit, then let the courtyard and garden provide a different pace. The formal rooms and household stories give the building character, while the Angus Folk Collection adds another view of local life. This is a separate outing west of Montrose, best enjoyed without racing back to a second major attraction.

The Trust currently warns of limited access on the morning of 27 September 2026 because of a duathlon. Check the live notice, house-tour availability and which parts of the property are open before travelling.

- House entry is by guided tour, with separate opening patterns for the estate and visitor facilities. Parking is charged for non-members. Follow brown signs from the A935 rather than a satnav route to an inaccessible rear gate.
- Access and getting around
- The courtyard, shop, café and a ground-floor house route have step-free access, but most house rooms require stairs. Gravel, slopes and woodland routes create further limits. The Trust’s detailed access guide explains each area; arrange the appropriate visit in advance.

- Use the courtyard displays and an outdoor break around a house tour that suits your children. Play areas and woodland paths have uneven surfaces, and a seasonal activity should be checked rather than assumed.
