Birdwatching and a Ferryden walk →
Pair sheltered basin viewing with a separate coastal walk, allowing transport and food between them.
A coastal walk from Ferryden / NEAR MONTROSE
Walk out from Ferryden for views of the South Esk meeting the sea, with the lighthouse providing a clear turning point. Take the time to watch harbour movements and scan the water from a sensible distance. Seals and dolphins are possibilities rather than an appointment, and the sea views make the walk worthwhile without them.

The lighthouse is an outdoor walking destination, not a promised tower tour. Start from Ferryden on the south side of the river; seeing it from Montrose Beach does not mean it is a short walk along the same shore.

Allow 1–1.5 hours for the visit, plus travel and breaks. This is a suggested planning allowance; opening times, access and availability may affect your plans.
