The John Buchan Story

Discover the writer behind The Thirty-Nine Steps alongside the wider life of John Buchan and the family’s links with Tweeddale. This small museum gives a town visit a literary focus, with room to follow a few interests rather than expect an all-day attraction. It occupies a separately accessed ground-floor space at the Chambers Institution. The photograph shows the wider building before its current refurbishment, not the museum’s interior or today’s access arrangements.

Before you go

The larger Peebles museum and gallery are closed for refurbishment, but the council says access to the John Buchan Museum is maintained. Follow current entrance signs and check this charity’s own opening schedule.
