Pontypridd Common and the Rocking Stone
Choose the Common when you want a walk with a different pace from the shops and park below. The Rocking Stone and surrounding Gorsedd setting connect the open ground with Welsh cultural gatherings. Follow the official short heritage route and enjoy the space without treating it as a flat extension of the town trail.
Before you go
The circle around the glacial boulder relates to later bardic ceremonies, not a prehistoric stone circle. Wear shoes suited to slopes and return before poor light or worsening weather.

- The walk is free and starts and finishes by the former Cottage Hospital on Hospital Road. Take the official route and check conditions; town refreshments and toilets are separate from the walk.
- Access and getting around
- The 1.6km official route is mainly tarmac but includes steep climbs, descents and uneven ground. Assess it separately from the gentler park routes; it is not a universally step-free or easy outing.

- Best for children happy walking uphill. Keep a shorter turn-back option and use the town park instead if a pushchair, tired legs or wet conditions make the slopes unhelpful.
