There is no need to complete the whole town heritage trail just because it is nearby. A short look at the Old Bridge is enough for many families, with care at roads and by the river. If swimming is the main reason for coming, check a family-appropriate Lido session before arranging the rest of the day. Adult-to-child ratios, swim ability, spectator tickets and any extra activity bands matter more than an attractive pool photograph. The main summer timetable has ended; do not promise children a swim from general opening text. Keep a museum-and-play alternative for a closed pool or unsuitable weather, and remember that the museum is normally shut on Sundays. Book a pool session when swimming is the purpose of the trip, then use the neighbouring park for food and a slower finish. Different pools and session types make this a more deliberate outing than dropping into a playground. The historic outdoor setting is part of the appeal, but it remains exposed to the weather.
Use the official town trail to connect the Old Bridge, streets and park with stories from the museum. You can enjoy the bridge as a short stop or follow the longer route with its heritage commentary.
