Pause among the lawns, planting and memorials of Friary Gardens, with the surviving medieval Greyfriars tower giving the space its distinctive backdrop. It makes a useful short break near the theatre when you want fresh air without descending to the river. The pleasure is in a gentle look around and a seat, rather than a long garden itinerary.
