The Georgian Theatre Experience
Step behind the scenes of Richmond’s working Georgian Theatre Royal on a guided heritage tour. The intimate auditorium, stage and dressing-room spaces reveal how actors and audiences used a theatre built in 1788. The restored Woodland Scene adds a rare surviving example of historic stage scenery.
Check the cancellation list before choosing an hourly tour. Performances and rehearsals can remove particular departures even during the normal touring season.

- General tours normally operate February–October, Monday–Saturday hourly from 10am, with the last leaving at 3pm. Ordinary visitors can usually turn up; groups require arrangements. In 2026 there are no 1pm, 2pm or 3pm tours on 16 or 26 September. A show or ghost tour is a separate booking; consult the live cancellation list.
- Access and getting around
- A platform lift serves the bar and auditorium levels. Exhibition and stage access uses an alternative street entrance; the under-stage area and its dressing rooms are not wheelchair-accessible. There is an accessible WC and seating during tours. Contact staff to arrange the route that suits you.

- A guided tour suits children interested in performance and happy to listen for about fifty-five minutes. Pushchairs are welcome, with space to leave them. Under-stage exploration can be omitted if enclosed areas or steps do not suit the family.
