Look at Scarborough through artists’ eyes in a former family villa on The Crescent. The collection and changing exhibitions offer a different pace from the seafront: choose a few pictures, return to a detail that interests you and leave room for conversation afterwards. It pairs naturally with the nearby Rotunda if you want a cultural half-day.

Before you go

The first floor and the gallery’s own toilets are reached by 23 stairs, with no lift. Ask what is on the accessible ground floor before choosing the visit around a particular exhibition.

Tickets and booking: The annual adult pass also admits you to the Rotunda. Current opening is Tuesday–Saturday, with Sunday and Monday closed. Check temporary exhibitions and event arrangements; contact staff for groups of ten or more.
Access and getting around: The entrance and ground-floor exhibition rooms are accessible to wheelchairs and pushchairs. There is no lift to the first floor or upstairs toilets. An accessible toilet is next door at Woodend; check its availability when planning.

Visiting with children: Under-18s enter free. A visual story, sensory map and ear defenders can help prepare for the visit. Pushchairs can be stored for an upstairs visit, but that does not provide a step-free alternative.
