North Bay beach and promenade

North Bay offers a broad seafront walk, colourful chalets and changing views towards the castle headland. It is the natural outdoor partner for Peasholm or SEA LIFE, with sand time when tide and conditions allow. Choose a section and enjoy it slowly rather than making the entire bay a compulsory walk for everyone in the group.

Before you go

Check tide times, weather and the RNLI patrol information before going onto the sand or into the water. Published daily patrols ended on 6 September 2026; no flags means no lifeguards.

Tickets and booking: No ticket is needed for an ordinary beach or promenade visit. Parking, toilets, refreshments, chalet hire and activities are additional. Dog restrictions affect designated areas seasonally; follow current council information and local signs.
Access and getting around: The broad paved promenade is distinct from beach access over sand, ramps or steps. The tourism authority lists pay-on-entry toilets and a Changing Places toilet at North Bay Beach Management Centre. Check the exact access route and facility arrangements for your needs.

Visiting with children: Choose sand play only where tide and conditions leave suitable space, and supervise children beside the sea. A promenade look still works when you decide not to use the beach. Do not treat a beach award or sheltered-looking water as a safety guarantee.
