Rotunda Museum

The Rotunda puts Scarborough’s coastline into a much longer story. Its circular Georgian gallery, fossils and prehistoric collections connect the seaside town with ancient landscapes and the people who lived in them. Choose it for a compact object-focused visit, especially if beach discoveries have prompted questions about the rocks and life along this coast.

The West Wing is currently closed because of water leaks. Check which displays are available before travelling for a particular object; do not assume the whole advertised collection can be seen.

Tickets and booking: Adult admission uses an annual pass shared with Scarborough Art Gallery; registered carers and under-18s are free. Both venues currently open Tuesday–Saturday and close Sunday/Monday. Groups of ten or more should contact staff ahead.
Access and getting around: An inclined approach avoids exterior steps. The entrance, shop and accessible toilet are on the ground floor, with a lift to the gallery floors and no gallery entrance steps. Confirm the current visitor route while the West Wing is closed.

Visiting with children: Under-18s enter free under current terms. Visual story, sensory map and ear defenders are available; ask staff if helpful. The accessible toilet includes baby changing. Keep a first visit focused on a few objects rather than every display.
