Sporting stories / ST ANDREWS
The R&A World Golf Museum
Objects, clothing and championship stories explore golf’s development over four centuries. You can enjoy the museum without booking a round or already knowing the rules: follow the people, equipment and changing culture of the game, then try the available interactive elements. Its position near the town end of West Sands makes an indoor visit and a short beach walk a sensible pairing.

A museum ticket is separate from playing golf or joining a course tour. Check the family admission allowance before booking: it covers up to three children per accompanying adult or senior, not an unlimited group.
The practical details
- Where to find it
- Bruce Embankment, KY16 9AB
Directions and arrival information ↗ - Tickets and booking
- Buy tickets online or at reception and check your chosen date. Online early-bird admission requires at least 48 hours’ notice. Carers enter free. The upstairs food venue and any special events have separate arrangements; do not infer regular hours from an individual booking slot.
- Access and getting around
- The museum, shop, reception and toilets are on the ground floor, with a lift to upstairs Clarets. A ramped entrance is on Golf Place by the car-park exit; discuss a street-level drop-off because the listed disabled bays involve a stepped approach. Galleries have low lighting, with stools, sensory resources and a quieter Learning Room. Ask staff about the raised putting platform.
Official access information ↗ - Visiting with children
- The Learning Room, dressing-up and putting activities can make a selective visit work for children. Up to three children aged 16 and under are currently free per accompanying adult or senior; additional children are charged. Baby changing and an accessible toilet are on the ground floor.
Practical information checked 14 September 2026. Confirm anything essential to your visit with the venue.
Make it part of your day
Allow 1–1½ hours for the visit, plus travel and breaks. This is a suggested planning allowance; opening times, access and availability may affect your plans.
