Porthmeor Beach

Porthmeor is the Atlantic-facing beach beside Tate, with a broad stretch of sand and an open view towards the headlands. It works well for a shore-side break after art, watching the changing light or a separate beach session in suitable conditions. Surf and weather give it a different character from Porthminster on the station side.

Before you go

A free beach stop need not involve entering the sea. In strong wind or rough conditions, keep the break short and use Tate as the booked anchor.

Tickets and booking: No general beach admission or booking. Lessons, equipment and food are separate purchases. Check tide, forecast and seasonal dog restrictions; this guide does not include a booked watersports session.
Access and getting around: Approaches and exits vary and the sand is not a firm wheelchair route. Check the suitable access point before committing with a buggy or mobility aid; town streets can be steep. Check current tide and sea conditions before setting out.

Visiting with children: Check the RNLI’s current patrol dates and flags. Swim or bodyboard between red-and-yellow flags when supervised; seasonal patrols are not a year-round guarantee. Keep children close at the water’s edge.
