Stockport Air Raid Shelters

Enter the sandstone shelter tunnels to understand how local people prepared for air raids and spent time underground. Recreated facilities and the setting make this a different kind of history visit from a gallery of objects. Allow time to listen and look rather than rushing through simply to complete the tunnels.

Weekday opening normally starts at 1pm. The underground environment may feel enclosed; consider this before choosing it for anyone uncomfortable in tunnels.

Tickets and booking: Paid adult admission, with current concession and child terms checked directly. Normally closed Mondays and bank holidays, weekday afternoons with different weekend hours. Special explorer tours are separate.
Access and getting around: The operator describes level access but some uneven sandstone surfaces and slight slopes. Heavy entrance doors may need staff assistance. Confirm mobility-aid suitability and any particular sensory needs before visiting.

Visiting with children: Explain the wartime subject and underground setting before arrival. Under-16s enter free with a paying adult under current terms; an adult-led short visit can be more suitable than an additional evening tour.
