The museum is in the Market Place, not the historic museum building in Vernon Park. Ordinary museum admission is free; Staircase House is separate.

Tickets and booking: Free entry. Published Tuesday–Saturday daytime opening, shorter Sunday hours, closed Mondays and bank holidays. Food and drink are not allowed in gallery spaces.
Access and getting around: Check the council’s access information and ask about any essential lift, toilet or mobility requirements before travelling. Routes through the museum and the historic house are not interchangeable.

Visiting with children: The family gallery gives younger visitors a focused part of the collection to enjoy. Choose a shorter visit and ask about current activities rather than expecting every room to be hands-on.
