Island stories beside Lews Castle / STORNOWAY
Explore the people, landscapes and culture of the Outer Hebrides through objects, film and interpretation in Gaelic and English. The museum includes Lewis Chessmen currently on loan and gives useful context for time on the islands. It occupies the modern building beside Lews Castle, with its own entrance and opening pattern.

The museum is closed on 16 September 2026 for essential maintenance. Check the current notice before travelling; ordinary visits resume only when the operator confirms access.
Practical information checked 15 September 2026. Confirm anything essential to your visit with the venue.
Allow 1–2 hours for the visit, plus travel and breaks. This is a suggested planning allowance; opening times, access and availability may affect your plans.
