SWANSEA GUIDE Independent ideas for your day out

Art / SWANSEA

Glynn Vivian Art Gallery

Near the railway station, Swansea’s city gallery combines its founding collection with Welsh and contemporary art. Let the changing displays decide your route: choose one room carefully, compare a couple of works and return to a detail you initially missed. It is an easy place to give a short city visit a thoughtful beginning, or to spend longer when an exhibition catches your interest.

Before you go

The café is currently closed, although its seating remains a place to rest. Arrange lunch elsewhere and check with the gallery before travelling to see a particular work, as collection displays rotate.

The practical details

Where to find it
Alexandra Road, Swansea SA1 5DZ, close to the railway station.
Directions and arrival information ↗
Tickets and booking
General admission is free. Normally Tuesday–Sunday, with Mondays closed except bank holidays. Check exhibition dates and any separately booked workshops; collection highlights are not all on permanent display.
Access and getting around
Use the modern level main entrance; the original entrance is exit-only. All galleries have lift access. There is a ground-floor Changing Places toilet and portable seating, but no wheelchairs for loan. Book staff guidance ahead if needed.
Official access information ↗
Visiting with children
Look for the current family programme rather than assuming a workshop runs every day. A short game of choosing colours or comparing two pictures can work without a formal activity. Ask staff for the accessible baby-changing facilities.

Practical information checked 14 September 2026. Confirm anything essential to your visit with the venue.

Make it part of your day

Allow 1–1½ hours for the visit, plus travel and breaks. This is a suggested planning allowance; opening times, access and availability may affect your plans.
