WINDERMERE GUIDE Independent ideas for your day out

Decorative detail, architecture & lake-facing terraces / NEAR WINDERMERE

Blackwell – the Arts & Crafts house

Explore an Arts and Crafts house designed by M H Baillie Scott, looking closely at woodwork, stained glass, fireplaces and the White Drawing Room. The terrace and lake views extend the visit beyond the rooms. Blackwell lies south of Bowness and needs its own travel plan, rather than being another stop beside the pier.

Before you go

Allow time for a proper visit and lunch, and check the closed day before travelling. A taxi or car may suit better than the walk: the operator warns that the route from Bowness includes a busy road.
