Lake boats, working conservation & waterside views / WINDERMERE
Windermere Jetty Museum
Explore the boats and stories that shaped life on Windermere, from steam launches to sailing craft. The galleries, wet dock and conservation spaces make this more than a collection of objects behind glass. Leave time to look across the lake and see how the boats connect to the water outside.

Museum entry and a heritage boat trip are different purchases. Decide whether you want a trip before arranging the rest of the day, and check whether weather and the seasonal programme allow it.
The practical details
- Where to find it
- Rayrigg Road, Bowness-on-Windermere, Cumbria LA23 1BN
Directions and arrival information ↗ - Tickets and booking
- Open daily 10am–5pm until 4 October 2026. From 5 October, normally Tuesday–Sunday; hours shorten to 10am–4pm from 2 November. Selected holiday Mondays are exceptions. Museum closure is listed for 12–13 January 2027, with café/shop remaining open. Ordinary heritage trips are seasonal; winter trips require separate exclusive booking. Check current tickets and parking rules.
- Access and getting around
- The museum is on one level with ramps where needed, accessible toilets and a drop-off point. Pushchairs are permitted. Outdoor jetties and a separately booked heritage boat have different conditions; contact staff about boarding rather than extending the museum’s access promise onto a vessel.
Official access information ↗ - Visiting with children
- Choose boats and hands-on activities that catch children’s attention, with room for a break outside. Ask which family activities are available on the day. Children aged four and under enter the museum free; heritage boat tickets and ages have their own terms.
Practical information checked 15 September 2026. Confirm anything essential to your visit with the venue.
Make it part of your day
