A lakeshore pause with woodland & play / WINDERMERE
Millerground and Rayrigg Meadow
Reach a quieter stretch of Windermere’s eastern shore at Millerground, with woodland paths, views across the water and nearby Rayrigg Meadow. Choose a short out-and-back shore visit or a longer walk using the local leaflet. The meadow’s play equipment gives families another reason to stay in this area.

Decide how much of the route you want before leaving the car park. Queen Adelaide’s Hill adds a steep climb; it is optional, and a brief shore visit can be the whole outing.
The practical details
- Where to find it
- Millerground and Rayrigg Meadow, Rayrigg Road, Windermere LA23 1BP
Directions and arrival information ↗ - Tickets and booking
- Public shore and meadow access is free, subject to local restrictions. Parking and organised watersports cost separately. The leaflet’s longer route is about 2km, but you can turn back sooner. Check notices and conditions after heavy rain; historical swimming references are not current bathing advice.
- Access and getting around
- The council-hosted route leaflet warns of uneven, wet and slippery ground, with gates, steep sections and steps on the hill option. Use the current local signs to choose your route; the full circuit is not a level wheelchair walk. Check present toilet and accessible-facility availability before relying on them.
Official access information ↗ - Visiting with children
- Rayrigg Meadow has toddler and junior play equipment. Keep children close beside the open water and separate a shore walk from any decision to swim or hire equipment. Bring a picnic if useful and leave time for the uphill return towards Windermere town.
Practical information checked 15 September 2026. Confirm anything essential to your visit with the venue.
Make it part of your day
Allow 45 minutes–1½ hours for the visit, plus travel and breaks. This is a suggested planning allowance; opening times, access and availability may affect your plans.
