For a shorter day together, keep a town walk and a meal, with one optional outdoor extension. In persistent rain, use a confirmed house visit or reduce the plan; local galleries can be explored after checking their individual hours rather than assumed as an all-day fallback.

Begin beside the harbour and look beyond the colourful houses to the story of a planned coastal town. The official town trail gives context to its streets, buildings and former maritime trade. Choose a short section, pause for something to eat and watch how the harbour changes with the tide rather than rushing towards another destination.
Follow the river away from the harbour for a change from open seafront to wooded valley. You can make a modest riverside outing near town or continue along the old railway route towards Llanerchaeron. Decide which version you want before setting off: reaching the estate and returning is a different commitment from a short walk among the trees.
Make a separate visit to Llanerchaeron for a house-and-estate day in the Aeron Valley. The villa and service courtyard tell one part of the story, while gardens, farm buildings and the lake show how the estate functioned. Choose the areas that interest your party and leave room for pauses instead of treating every part as a compulsory circuit.
Visit the restored walled garden at Tŷ Glyn for a smaller-scale outing among planting, orchard and woodland. The garden’s sensory features and accessible design give it a different character from the larger National Trust estate nearby. Take time to notice seasonal details rather than expecting a busy attraction programme, and respect the holiday centre’s guests and private spaces.
Spend time on the seafront for sea views and a short coastal walk, choosing the side of the harbour that suits conditions. These are predominantly pebble, shingle and rocky shores, with the sea changing what is exposed. The pleasure is often in the views and movement of the water rather than an expectation of a broad sandy playground.
