BLACKPOOL GUIDE Independent ideas for your day out

Seaside walks / BLACKPOOL

Blackpool Promenade and Beach

A short stretch of the promenade gives you Blackpool’s big seafront views without an attraction ticket. Begin around the Tower and choose a turning point, such as the approach to Central Pier, instead of treating the entire coast as one walk. The beach is a separate, tidal space below the walkway: the amount of sand and the sensible route change with the sea. Stay on the promenade when conditions make a beach detour unsuitable.

Before you go

Allow time to stop and look back at the Tower rather than simply walking south until everyone is tired. Set your return point before you start, particularly if you are connecting with a train.

The practical details

Where to find it
Central seafront; extend north or south as time allows
Directions and arrival information ↗
Tickets and booking
No booking is needed for the public promenade or ordinary beach access. Food, transport, arcades and pier attractions are separate costs; this recommendation does not promise free admission to every pier facility.
Access and getting around
The paved promenade and the sand are different access environments. Choose suitable crossings and check local beach access before descending. Wind, sea spray and crowded sections can change the ease of the route.
Official access information ↗
Visiting with children
This is an easy visit to shorten, but supervise children around roads, tram crossings and the water. Check current tide and weather information; do not follow distant sandbanks as a route.
