For a central half-day, begin around the Tower and walk towards Central Pier, stopping for views. Allow 45–90 minutes including pauses, then eat your packed lunch or use a café if the budget allows. The shortest version is a 20–30-minute out-and-back around the Tower. These are editorial allowances; the beach remains optional and depends on current tides and weather. For longer outdoors, make Stanley Park the main destination. A garden-and-lake walk followed by a picnic can occupy two or three hours without paying for rides. Seasonal activities are optional. The park is inland, so allow for transport and check the gates on arrival; staying longer in one place may cost less than adding extra journeys. During Illuminations season, go out after a meal for a manageable display section. Check nightly switch times and return services: trams and tours are paid even though viewing the lights is free. Outside the season, plan a daytime seafront outing instead.
