Fishbourne Roman Palace and Gardens

Visit surviving Roman mosaic floors in their original setting, then use the museum and reconstructed gardens to imagine the scale of the household around them. Fishbourne rewards a slower visit: compare patterns, look at what survives and distinguish the archaeological remains from the garden reconstruction. It sits west of Chichester and deserves a separate travel allowance.

Allow about two hours on site and a proper food break. Check the current café service or bring a picnic, and leave enough time before the earlier last-entry limit shown in the dated opening calendar.

Tickets and booking: Advance booking is optional for general visits. The current dated calendar runs through 6 December 2026; check later winter opening before planning travel. Fishbourne station and the Salthill Road bus stop each involve a further walk. Essential-carer and Gift Aid return-entry terms have conditions; check the ticket you choose.
Access and getting around: The main museum and covered mosaic area are generally level with wide doors and ramped walkways. Garden paths are gravel; the formal garden can also be viewed from the colonnade. Accessible toilets, Blue Badge spaces and two reservable wheelchairs are available. Confirm your requirements before travel.

Visiting with children: Ask about current trails and interactive activities. Under-fives enter free; older children have paid tickets and family options. Handling sessions and school-holiday events depend on the programme, so do not promise them as part of every ordinary visit.
