INVERARAY GUIDE Independent ideas for your day out

Campbell family history in a lochside setting / INVERARAY

Inveraray Castle and Gardens

Let the rooms lead the visit, with enough time to notice how an imposing castle also works as a family home. The armoury, furnished interiors and stories of the Campbells offer more than an exterior photograph. Add the garden when the weather and your energy suit, keeping the wider estate walk as a separate decision.

Before you go

The castle’s 2026 season closes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and ends on 26 October. Do not assume a famous attraction is open every day, especially when planning around a short stay.

The practical details

Where to find it
Inveraray Castle, Inveraray PA32 8XE
Directions and arrival information ↗
Tickets and booking
Book or check tickets for the correct day and allow for seasonal last entry. The gardens are ticketed, and parking is charged separately. A woodland walk does not include admission to the castle or garden.
Access and getting around
Ramps provide ground-floor entry, with accessible rooms and an accessible toilet on that level. Other floors require stairs; a video alternative is available. Loose or deep gravel can affect garden access. Read the current access page and arrange the visit you need.
Official access information ↗
Visiting with children
Choose a manageable selection of rooms and a garden break rather than expecting young children to absorb every display. Pushchairs cannot go upstairs; ask about appropriate arrangements before arrival and keep children close on the shared estate approach.

Practical information checked 15 September 2026. Confirm anything essential to your visit with the venue.

Make it part of your day

Allow 2–3 hours for the visit, plus travel and breaks. This is a suggested planning allowance; opening times, access and availability may affect your plans.
