Explore the forest and lake landscape above the coastal plain, choosing a route appropriate to the weather and your walking experience. The views towards Lough Foyle and Donegal are the draw, but the exposed escarpment is a different undertaking from a gentle town park.

Before you go

Use a current route map and respect forestry signs. Do not follow an assumed cliff-edge shortcut or turn a viewpoint visit into an unplanned hill walk.

Tickets and booking: Check weather, daylight and forestry restrictions before travelling. Walking is distinct from permit-controlled fishing and any vehicle-access arrangements.
Access and getting around: Uneven ground, steep slopes and exposed edges limit access on many routes. Ask about the current approach and suitable viewpoints rather than assuming a continuous step-free lakeside circuit.

Visiting with children: The more exposed walking is not a default choice for young children. Adults must judge the selected route and conditions, keeping well away from cliff edges.
