A LITTLE PLANNING. A BETTER DAY.

Things to do in Limavady with kids

Choose a manageable riverside walk, a suitable scheduled event or time on Benone’s sand. Keep the return journey and seasonal facilities in view.

Plan your visit

Start with a Roe Valley route that matches the children’s energy rather than the longest walk on offer. River views, trees and clues to the area’s working past can give a short outing a focus. Decide where you will turn back, supervise children beside the water and leave enough time to return without rushing. Wet paths and old industrial structures need more care than a playground. For an indoor activity, check the arts centre’s current family programme before promising a workshop or performance. Ages, duration and booking rules vary, and a general opening time does not mean a children’s event is available. Ask about seating, access and any sensory requirements for the session you choose. The family area is a useful shared space, not supervised childcare. Benone can offer a longer beach outing after a separate transfer. Take layers even when the forecast is bright and choose an area away from vehicle movements. Follow the current lifeguard flags and timetable: September cover is not daily. When swimming conditions are unsuitable, keep the visit to a sand walk or another activity that does not depend on entering the sea. If you need specialist beach equipment, arrange it before travelling and discuss the appropriate chair, transfers and changing facilities. Do not assume summer equipment is available as a winter walk-in service. For a shorter family day, stay with a comfortable country-park section or the booked arts activity. The exposed Binevenagh routes are not part of this default family selection.

Roe Valley Country Park

Follow the River Roe through a wooded landscape where traces of local industry add interest to the walking. Choose a route that fits the conditions and the time available, with pauses to look at the water and surviving structures rather than treating the park as a single compulsory circuit.

Shows at Roe Valley Arts & Cultural Centre

Choose a performance at Limavady’s town-centre arts venue to add music, theatre or another live event to your visit. The Danny Boy Auditorium hosts a changing programme, so this is an outing to book around a specific event rather than a show available whenever the building is open.

Benone Strand

Take a separate coastal trip from Limavady for a beach walk, time on the sand or views across towards Donegal. Benone’s long shoreline lets you choose a short outing without walking its full length, with dunes and mountain scenery giving the beach its setting.
