Fistral Beach

Watch the Atlantic surf, spend time on the sand or build a separate beach day around Fistral. This is Newquay’s open, west-facing shore, beyond the town centre and different in character from Towan beside the aquarium. A shore-side visit is worthwhile without entering the water or booking a lesson.

Before you go

Allow for the walk back uphill and into town before a meal or train. A beach bag and windy weather can turn a short-looking transfer into the demanding part of the day.

Tickets and booking: No general beach ticket. Parking, food, lessons and hire are extra. If booking a lesson, check minimum age, swimming requirements, equipment, cancellation terms and actual meeting beach. Patrols are seasonal.
Access and getting around: Access from the beach complex includes a sloping approach and dunes; the sand is unsuitable for ordinary powered mobility equipment. Ask the local hire provider about a beach wheelchair before travelling. Choose a shore-side view if sand access does not meet your needs.

Visiting with children: Check RNLI patrol dates and flags on arrival. Swim or bodyboard in the red-and-yellow flagged area when supervised, and keep children close. Surfing ability and conditions matter; a free beach suggestion does not include instruction or equipment.
