NEWQUAY GUIDE Independent ideas for your day out

Beach / NEWQUAY

Towan Beach

Towan puts a sandy beach immediately below the centre, beside the aquarium and the harbour side of Newquay Bay. The offshore rock and its bridge are distinctive landmarks to look at from the shore. It makes a convenient short beach stop before lunch or after the aquarium without walking all the way to Fistral.

Before you go

Use the streets to move between beaches. Connections across sand can disappear as the tide rises; the bridge to the house on the rock is not included as a public visitor attraction.

The practical details

Where to find it

Directions and arrival information ↗
Tickets and booking
Beach entry is free. Check tide, forecast and RNLI dates; food, equipment and organised activities are extra. Keep exits in view and allow time to climb back towards the town or station.
Access and getting around
The approach via Beach Road is sloping; other town routes have steps. Sand is not a wheelchair path. The aquarium lists a seasonal Towan beach-chair arrangement: contact it to confirm availability, conditions and deposit before relying on it.

Visiting with children
Lifeguard provision changes by season and day, unlike Fistral’s longer continuous daily season. Follow flags and local advice; sheltered water is not a safety guarantee. RNLI says surfing is restricted here while summer lifeguards are on duty.

Make it part of your day

Allow 45 minutes–2 hours for the visit, plus travel and breaks. This is a suggested planning allowance; opening times, access and availability may affect your plans.
