St Albans Clock Tower
Climb the medieval civic tower for a different view of the city and its relationship with the cathedral. The narrow staircase is a significant part of this visit, so choose it for the climb as well as the view. From ground level the tower still makes a useful landmark on a central stroll.
Before you go
Regular public opening runs on weekends and bank holidays from Easter to the end of September. Do not build a winter or ordinary weekday plan around going inside.

- Paid adult admission with children free under current terms. Seasonal Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays 10.30am–5pm, last entry 4.30pm; confirm weather and volunteer opening.
- Access and getting around
- There are 93 steep, very narrow steps and no wheelchair or buggy access. It is unsuitable for visitors affected by claustrophobia; the bell can be loud on the hour. Weather can close the tower.

- Consider confidence on narrow stairs and sensitivity to loud bells before committing. Children currently enter free, but adults pay and the physical climb still needs careful supervision.
