A seasonal tower and a free city visit →
For an open weekend or bank holiday between Easter and September, with the climb optional.
A seasonal climb above the city / ST ALBANS
Climb the medieval civic tower for a different view of the city and its relationship with the cathedral. The narrow staircase is a significant part of this visit, so choose it for the climb as well as the view. From ground level the tower still makes a useful landmark on a central stroll.

Regular public opening runs on weekends and bank holidays from Easter to the end of September. Do not build a winter or ordinary weekday plan around going inside.
Practical information checked 15 September 2026. Confirm anything essential to your visit with the venue.
Allow 30–45 minutes for the visit, plus travel and breaks. This is a suggested planning allowance; opening times, access and availability may affect your plans.
