Before you go

Rooflight repairs bring scaffolding from July to December 2026, but the museum, galleries and café are advertised to remain open. Historic photographs may show an unobstructed exterior.

Tickets and booking: Free general admission, normally daily 10am–4pm. Check the programme for charged events and any temporary exhibition arrangements; café purchases are separate.
Access and getting around: Lifts serve the visitor areas except the historic Cells. Accessible toilets and large-print exhibition text are available. Check any temporary route changes during rooflight repairs.

Visiting with children: Choose a small number of objects or a current family activity. The historic cells can feel enclosed and are not accessible by lift; they need not be part of every visit.
