Verulamium Museum, St Albans

Use the mosaics, recreated rooms and objects to picture the Roman town that once occupied the park outside. Concentrate on domestic life or a handful of favourite finds instead of trying to read every display. This is the substantial indoor Roman visit; the separate Hypocaust preserves a floor in its original setting.

Before you go

Term-time school groups can make the galleries busy. The museum suggests after 2.30pm for a quieter visit, but closes at 4pm, so keep that late visit focused.

Tickets and booking: Paid entry; tickets bought from 31 July 2026 include an annual pass under current terms. Daily 10am–4pm, last admission 3.30pm. Check current family and concession prices.
Access and getting around: Entrance and galleries are on one level; a lift reaches the basement accessible toilet. The approach from the car park slopes. Ask about written/audio guides or the visual story before arrival.

Visiting with children: Hands-on areas and activity sheets support a focused family visit. Dressing-up is advertised for weekends and school holidays rather than every day. Allow a food break before adding the park.
