Stromness Museum

Use the museum to explore how a small harbour town connected with a much wider world. Maritime material sits alongside natural-history collections, giving you a reason to look both out to sea and more closely at Orkney’s own wildlife and geology. Allow time to follow a few themes that interest you instead of treating the galleries as a quick stop on the way to the next attraction.

Tickets and booking: Check current seasonal opening and admission. Assistance dogs only; contact staff before travelling if access to a particular collection is essential.
Access and getting around: The entrance and main ground-floor area are level, with a small incline to another ground-floor gallery. A stairlift serves Natural History, but not all other galleries. Ask the custodian about the Captain’s Parlour route and individual requirements.

Visiting with children: Children can choose a maritime or natural-history theme to follow. Under-sixteens currently enter free, but adult admission is paid and the building’s access needs still matter.
