Westgate Museum
Inside the gate at the top of the High Street, a compact museum explores Tudor and Stuart Winchester through objects, a decorated ceiling and marks left by prisoners. It is a close-up counterpart to the spacious Great Hall. The roof gives another perspective on the city when access is available, but the enclosed displays are the reason to come rather than a guaranteed viewpoint.
Westgate is a separate building a few minutes from the Great Hall, despite sharing its admission ticket. Check the stairs suit your party before counting it as the second half of your purchase.

- Included in the paid Great Hall and Westgate ticket, with an Explorer option including City Museum. Check opening and roof availability on the day. The shared ticket does not mean the Great Hall and Westgate have identical access arrangements.
- Access and getting around
- The only visitor access is a steep staircase from street level; the museum is not wheelchair accessible. Roof access adds more climbing. There is a hearing loop and a touch-and-hear information point. Westgate has no toilet: use facilities elsewhere before entering.

- Tudor costumes, replica armour, brass rubbing and a spotter trail give families things to do together. This suits children comfortable with stairs; plan adult help on the narrow access and do not assume a pushchair can accompany the visit.
