Eton Natural History and Antiquities Museums

Across the Thames in Eton, the Natural History Museum and Museum of Antiquities offer two different subjects for a carefully timed afternoon. Choose specimens or the ancient world as your starting point rather than trying to tour the whole college. Public museum opening does not provide unrestricted access to the school.

Before you go

Public openings are normally on Sunday afternoons, subject to exceptions. The Museum of Eton Life is closed for works from May to November 2026, so do not build a visit around that separate museum.

Tickets and booking: Check the dated opening notices and current Sunday hours before setting out. Weekday research appointments and school visits are not ordinary tourist admission.
Access and getting around: Ask the collections team to confirm lift availability before travelling: its access page retains an old unresolved Natural History Museum lift notice, and that museum’s upper floor is stairs-only. Access differs between the two museums.

Visiting with children: The collections offer family activities. Pick one museum first and use the public opening window realistically; check pushchair storage with staff.
