The Long Walk and Deer Park
The tree-lined approach south of the castle gives Windsor one of its clearest landscape views. You can enjoy the town-end stretch and turn back without making the distant Copper Horse your destination. A longer walk enters a working deer park and needs more time, suitable conditions and an open route.
The estate lists Deer Park closures on 14, 15 and 21 September 2026 and reduced pedestrian access during the 26–27 September races. Check current notices before planning a full route.

- Town-end access by Park Street, south of Windsor Castle.

- No general walking admission. Operational closures may prevent access to the Deer Park; follow signs and never use a closure as a reason to leave the authorised paths.
- Access and getting around
- Choose a manageable out-and-back distance and consult the estate’s access information for surfaces and gradients. The full avenue and the hill at its far end are not equivalent to a short town-end stroll.

- Cycles and scooters are not permitted on the Long Walk or in the Deer Park, even pushed. Keep children close and observe deer from a distance, particularly during the autumn rut.
