A relaxed date in Lurgan can begin with the town park and continue to lunch without needing a pre-booked attraction. Walk the main avenue and choose how much of the lake-side route you want to cover, keeping the return gate and weather in mind. This works particularly well when you have only part of a day or want time to talk rather than follow a programme. Brownlow House adds architectural interest from outside, but its currently advertised tours are arranged for groups of six or more, so do not promise an interior visit for two without a separate confirmation from the venue. If you both enjoy watching wildlife, make Oxford Island the main destination instead. The peninsula offers shore and woodland settings, with a small centre exhibition and café available during their own hours. Choose a path for the weather and footwear, and let the nature reserve determine the pace rather than treating it as a quick stop before another lake. Current water-quality signs matter even when you only intend to walk; keep to an appropriate route if parts of the shore are affected. For a more active date, book a South Lake paddling session in Craigavon. Decide honestly whether equipment hire is appropriate or a coached taster would be more enjoyable. Confirm the actual date and format, bring the requested kit and leave time afterwards for changing before arranging a meal. A park walk or reserve visit is a sensible alternative if conditions cancel the water activity, but it is a different outing with a different arrival point. For a shorter date, keep to Lurgan Park and the town; for a longer one, choose the reserve or paddling as the main trip rather than rushing between all three waterside settings.
FIND YOUR KIND OF DAY
Step away from Lurgan’s town centre into the former Brownlow estate for a lake walk, play or an unhurried pause beneath mature trees. The park supports several different lengths of outing, from the main avenue and fountain to a longer circuit. Brownlow House overlooks the grounds, but visiting its interior is a separate arrangement.
Make a separate outing to the peninsula at the southern edge of Lough Neagh for woodland paths, shore views and birdwatching. Despite its name, Oxford Island is reached by land. The Discovery Centre and play area offer useful starting points, while the reserve’s paths let you choose a quieter nature-focused visit.
Head to Craigavon for a paid paddling session on the lakes, choosing coached instruction or equipment hire according to experience. It is a different outing from the Lough Neagh nature reserve and needs its own arrival point and booking. Leave time for changing as well as the session itself.
